on our last day in long beach we took a drive over to venice for lunch at a spot we've been in the past – gjelina. if you're ever in venice, you'll be overwhelmed by all of the delicious places to go. but you should probably go here. afterwards we just wandered the {in}famous boardwalk. it truly felt like summer !

christmas celebrations take II – long beach ! it was so great to be with kp's fam in the beautiful, hot, sparkly weather that is so cal. we just can't seem to get away from california lately. most of our time was spent at the beach, along with many delicious meals, and a ton of quality fam time.

^^  in san francisco i take pictures and they turn out with a bunch of fuzzy little black dots floating in a dark gloomy ocean. this was a nice change. 
^^ a christmas eve dinner that will go down in history. those who attended will know why ! 
^^ making lorna p's famous biscuits and gravy, and circling around the table for morning dad jokes with cp. 
he's full of them.

this year we celebrated christmas with a lot of people – it was loving and exhausting all at once {no offense, fam}. things started in texas with a dirty santa party in houston at my aunt's. we came home the proud owners of a cactus and a tequila bottle. hello !


the day following we had a pretend christmas in austin that consisted of fondue, wine, doggies, naps, baking, wine, more fondue, and a gift exchange. we were so full and happy ours heads almost exploded. so thankful to have so many loved ones around this time of year !

^^ cheese fondue, i've missed you! it has been ages. this stuff is like heaven in a bowl – and being that jc is swiss, we had some super authentic stuff going on. the cheese was flown into central market that week from his home town in switzerland. 

** note, you might want to just mentally prepare that you will feel like you've eaten a bowling ball for lunch. 
^^ this thing is still a hit – i made it last year – and it is the perfect combo of pecan and pumpkin pie. people will like you more if you make it for them. 
^^ our second fondue of the day, meat. its......... really good.

i've been holding this post hostage until after christmas – i didn't want to give anything away. that being said, this year i was a little stuck on what i was going to get kp's and my family. "making" gifts always sounds scary and can often end up looking something like these  – however when i thought back to this day, and got a recommendation from cal, the wheels started turning. who wouldn't want pickled veggies and infused booze?

^^ here, i infused gin with cucumber and rosemary for kp's brother – leave it in there for about a week before straining and re-bottling. wa la! 
^^ for the pickling, i followed these guidelines {oh hey thanks paula!}

again, let these soak for about a week and you're golden. 
we mixed with apple cider. the bottle was gone within the evening.

monday night was spent at the austin christmas staple – the trail of lights. one of our dear friends worked on putting together this awesome event {more like slaved over}, and it was time to celebrate her accomplishments. she gave us the vip treatment. this means alcoholic beverages, heaters, and golf cart tours. and so much more.

their booth was killing it with delicious chili and cocoa. believe it or not austin has been fa-reezing


afterwards we headed to our 11pm dinner reservations to one of my favorite spots in austin, justines. the food / wine / ambiance is killer. and they really started the whole "east side" thing, in my opinion. after spilling my glass and eating a few too many mussels, it was time to head home. thank you so much AS for such a fun night ! and happy friday !
