kauai [HANALEI], hawaii | TRAVEL GUIDE
to sleep
Home rentals in hanalei, i think renting a house is the best way to go. there are SO many great ones, but can be hard to find. a few that i've seen that look great can be found here, here and here
Hale lu ya this is where we stayed. while their website is not the best, we LOVED everything about this house and would recommend it to anyone.
to eat & drink
Mermaid cafe hit this up for tacos on the way to or from the airport. you will not regret it!
Aloha juice bar if you like acai bowls, must come here. we went every morning.
Kilaulea fish market perfect for grabbing lunch {we loved the tacos} short drive from hanalei, best spot to get fresh fish for later, too.
Kilaulea bakery fun for small bites or pastries
Hanalei Wake Up Cafe: perfect for a quick coffee before hitting the water
The nui best/only bar to go to in Hanalei, fun for pizza @ lunch
Maoloa's Sunrise Juicebar: great for a smoothie or acai bowl on your way to or from the airport
Pacos tacos: we didn't have time to try this spot, but another well known taco shop in the area that gets a lot of buzz
with the many local fish markets around i think grilling and cooking at home is the most fun here. however, if you feel like dining out for dinner:
Postcards cafe & Dolphin sushi are awesome
to explore
Tunnels beach: this spot is a short drive from Hanalei, great for swimming, snorkeling, paddle or just relaxing in the sand
SUP the canals: there are rental companies everywhere, pick your poison and go in the back canals – the water is calm and peaceful
Queen's bath: a bit confusing to find, however once you arrive to the lava hot springs you will be so happy you went, this was one of my favorite days. if there are locals around they can point you to a few other areas that are safe to swim.
Napali kayak: 17 mile kayak along the coast, only do this if you feel like workin hard ;) Hanakapi'ai falls hike: the best thing to do on the island by far, but get to the hike early because it takes most of the day and you'll beat the crowds
Yoga Hanalei: this spot offers really great classes [we took the 2 hour vinyasa], and it was a great way to escape the morning rain. After our class, it had cleared up and we were ready for the beach.
